The breadwinner

I juts had watched the breadwinner movie and i really love the story

From the movie, i had learn that it is really dangerous if religion is 'wrongly' interpreted by an individual, group, society, and even state. religion not only can be used to make conflict for resources (oil, land, etc) or politics but also being used to gain power over someone/individual.

One of human nature is to be the 'top' or have more power other than others. it's our instinct that we, human, can make people become powerless. you can see in the movie, particularly the man who report parvana father who used to be his student.

To me, we cannot blame the religion because religion, that I know, only teach us love, respect, justice, wisdom, knowledge, and even science, etc. Our relation to our Creator, you may called God, Allah, Buddha, Yahweh, Brahman, etc. our relation to other human, as well as our relation to God creations (animal, plant, nature, etc.). within these relations, religion teach us how to respect each other. however in the movie, we can see how religion is 'misinterpreted' by human. Yes, the one is wrong is human not religion.

The breadwinner tell us about daily live of women in Afghan (majority is Muslim people), war, family, etc. but note this, the movie is only picture the glimpse not general because i do not know and not living in Afghan. what i want to say is in the movie, women do not have privilege, women should stay in the house, cannot make any public appearance (including work and socialize) without any attendance by her husband/father/brother, women in the public space cannot made any action that can attract attention, women in early age can be 'forced' to married (in one scene you can see an old man buying parvana clothe for his wife --- i think his wife is the same age with parvana because the old man buying parvana clothe). It's a picture of women life in Afghan with law and culture based on Islam interpret.

The movie not showing the cruelty of Islam, at least to me, but it teach us that religion is used by society (in this movie, used by men) to control and submission over women. Yes, i'm a Muslim and the Islam that I know will never do that because Islam respect women. I heard that Mohammad (Islam prophet) time, some women also fight in the war for fighting for what they belief. Even Mohammad wife also a business women. well you can search it in the internet about this information. What i mean is, that Islam that I know is not the Islam that had been show in the movie. Don't get me wrong, is not that the movie think bad of Islam, no it's not, the movie just showing us how religion is interpret by human beings also show that not all Afghan . That is why i really love the movie.

Other thing that i really like about the movie, it's also teach us about family love and bond. even though parvana family live in Afghan with 'Syariah law' (law based on Islam), his father still take parvana to the market, teach his daughter to read and write, etc. it show that even living in those situation, not everyone agree with the 'law'. other scene that show family love and bonding, is where parvana mother treat the men who want to bring her, her daughter and son, to leave them so they can go back to their home and reunite with parvana (sad that the movie didn't show the reunion but i think its intentional by the production team so we can imagine it). parvana mother know the consequence to her action as well as the consequence of a women walking in the road (public). parent love can conquered all, especially for their children.

Other things that really interesting is the men who help parvana and his father, even when he know that parvana is a girl disguise as a boy. i think he help parvana because of her determination to see his father, the love in parvana family, or maybe because he help her cause parvana read his letter and teach him how to write his wife name (sad scene when parvana read the letter to the men about the death of his wife --- i think it's his wife??).

Also the relationship and hardship experience by parvana and her friend (also disguise as a boy). there are three things that melts my heart in parvana and her friend relationship. one, their dream and promise to meet again 20 years later in the beach, second helping each other even though their situation is already hard (i love the scene where her friend gave parvana the money to help parvana father), third they work together for their family --- parvana friend said that she doesn't like her father like saying I'm a good 'son' but my father is not a good father, however parvana friend didn't want to leave her father even tough parvana asked her to go with her and her family (I think is because parvana friend really love her father so that she cannot leave him).

The movie show many things, but the ones that stuck with me is human selfishness is really mess up but human love also a beautiful things and make us keep going.

I really recommend to watch the movie, it really interesting (i also like the 'story' made by parvana and her family, also her friend -- scary old horse lol you will know what i mean when you see the movie).
